Jaidan T., Staff Writer

Ms. Joann Fukuma is Cheyenne High School’s new athletic director! This is her first year working at Cheyenne, and it’s been a busy one as she’s already been involved in many activities.

Prior to coming to Cheyenne, Ms. Fukuma worked as a physical education teacher and an athletic director in Seattle, Washington, her hometown.

“I’ve taught, P.E., health, and coached tennis and swimming,” said Fukuma.

She has always been involved in sports and lives a very active lifestyle. Her love of sports and coaching led to her choice of becoming an athletic director.

“I became an Athletic Director about 12 years ago when I wanted to make coaches’ jobs just a little easier. I wanted them to coach teams, while I worked on logistics surrounding athletics,” said Fukuma.

Fukuma has already started working on plans to make everything easier for coaches and athletes at Cheyenne.

When she’s not in the gym teaching, Ms. Fukuma can be found in the Athletic Office between the 800s-900s behind the library. She urges students to come to her with any problems and advises student-athletes to keep up with academic work.

We look forward to amazing things and outstanding support from Athletic Director Fukuma!
